Good reputation

Which companies would you say have a good world wide reputation? Apple? Google?
According to a survey conducted by Reputation Institute in 24 countries the no 1 is Google with it's free products and services and then Sony because of it's technological products.
Other good ranking companies included Microsoft, Apple, Ferrero Rocher chocolates, BMW and Daimler, both German-owned, car manufacturers, Ikea, Disney, Nestle, L'Oreal`, Johnson & Johnson, Singapore Airlines and Intel. Innovation is one of the main ingredients that is recognised for a good ranking, also quality, but I would have to say the ability to be large enough to have good advertising is way up there - but without the great product there would be no point in the advertising.

Shine On John    9th October 1940 - 8 December 1980

John Lennon will shine on forever - this is the good news.

His name and songs will be forever linked to keeping it real, vision, creativity, rebellion, political activism, anti war sentiment, love, the revolution of rock and roll, fatherhood, imaging a better world and the big one PEACE.

Our thoughts and love are with Cythia and Julian Lennon and Yoko Ono and Sean.

Sing along to instant karma with raw anger -

"Instant Karma's gonna get you,
Gonna knock you off your feet,
Better recognize your brothers,
Everyone you meet,
Why in the world are we here?
Surely not to live in pain and fear,
Why on earth are you there,
When you're everywhere,
Come and get your share.

Well we all shine on,
Like the moon and the stars and the sun,
Yeah we all shine on,
Come on and on and on on on..."

Child friendly reform - England December 2010

Campaigners have achieved reform in the United Kingdom's deportation laws so that children will no longer be locked up when their family is awaiting deportation. The Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives agreed to the reform as part of the post-election agreement. This makes the U.K.'s one of the most child-friendly immigration systems in the world.

"It's not just about families. This is a significant day for the UK's reputation as a country that will treat people with compassion." Martin Narey, C.E.O. of Barnardo's, to the BBC.

Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma's opposition leader has been released.

Burma has been ruled by a military regime since 1962 during which time  Aung San Suu Kyi has spent 15 years under house arrest. She has been released again on 13th November 2010 apparently with no conditions placed upon her. This is good news even if many are taking a wait and see approach due to the Burmese military regime's habit of releasing and re arresting her.

Aung San Suu Kyi is a Nobel Peace laureate and a heroine of democracy, a formidable and strong women, who has not had contact with her family for seven years - no letters, no phone calls.

World diplomatic leaders are working to improve the politics, and therefore the plight of the people of Burma, by pressuring and supporting the campaign for the democratization of Burma.

Please view the video below of the thousands of supporters cheering her on her release

Mineral of the Month - Lithium aids proper endocrine regulation, brain function and stabilises emotions.Natural sources are foods grown in mineral rich soil including vegetables, potatoes, wholegrains and seeds. It is also found in eggs and dairy products. Deficiency can cause depression, depressed growth, reduced fertility and reduced longevity. There  is no Recommended Daily Allowance.

....................................................................................................................................................

Mineral of the Month - April - Calcium.

Calcium aids weightloss. Dr Robert Heaney, at Creighton University in Omaha USA, was amazed to find that women at mid life did not gain weight if they had a high calcium diet www.health.discovery.com/html  Calcium helps PMS. Dr Susan Thys- Jacobs from St Luke- Roosevelt Hospital in the USA finds that a calcium supplementation of 1,200 mg per day relieves both the physical and emotional symptoms of Pre Menstrual Syndrome (PMS) by almost 50%.  We all know that calcium is important for bone and tooth formation but did you know it assists in blood clotting, muscle growth, heart rhythm and nerve tranquilisation and has the highest recommended dose of any nutrient after protein, fat & carbohydrates.

Calcium food sources: almonds, molasses, sesame seeds, tahini, yoghurt, turnip greens, kale, collard greens, broccoli, sardines and salmon (with bone) milk and cheese.

Recipes to help you get your calcium: Hummus - sesame seeds, tahini, chick peas, lemon and salt and water - blend to make a spread or dip: Almond milk - blend almonds with spring water and strain this is great calcium source for children and grown ups who cannot tolerate milk.

Health

Vitamin of the month  - vitamin D

The good news is it is free as we get vitamin D from sunshine.Recently I had a blood test and was told I was deficient in this important vitamin.  How can this be when I live in Australia one of the sunniest places on the planet?  I was wearing a hat and sunscreen!  So now it is official - stop wearing your hat for 15 minutes every day because we need  to get our daily dose (if possible) of vitamin D.   In winter we need about 1hour of sun every day.  I hope it is sunny where you are today.

Vitamin D - what is it?  It is required for the normal growth of bones and teeth.  A deficiency can lead to a softening of the bones called rickets.  It helps maintain good levels of calcium and phosphorus in our bloodstreams.  Medical studies have associate vitamin D deficiency with many things including autoimmune diseases such as MS also cancer, heart disease, depression, diabetes and hypertension.

The debate is finally over - global warming is really happening.  Or is it? The good news is we can do something about it as an individual

  • Plant trees
  • insulate your water heater
  • change your light bulbs
  • use environmentally friendly products that you can buy or make
  • Fix leaking taps they can waste up to 20 gallons of water per day.
  • Install a low-flow showerhead - Showers account for 32 percent of home water  Low-flow showerheads deliver no more than 2.5 gallons per minute compared to standard showerheads that release 4.5 gallons per minute.

All of these activities change the CO2 levels for the better.
