Today is a day of hope for Southern Sudanese everywhere - after a long struggle they can rejoice in their independence from Sudan - the Republic of  South Sudan has been created.

Resurgence of sockeye salmon in Canada's Fraser Island.

 After years of decline and concern this year's sockeye salmon run is amazingly good - the best in almost 100 years. In the past overfishing and global warming have been blamed for the decline.
