Resurgence of sockeye salmon in Canada's Fraser Island. After years of decline and concern this year's sockeye salmon run is amazingly good - the best in almost 100 years. 34 million sockeye salmon traveling up river is a dramatic turn around that no one was expecting, especially as in 2008 the fish had been placed on the endangered list.

In the past overfishing and global warming have been blamed for the disatrous decline.David Suzuki believes we should be cautious. What is your perspective?

 The International Day for Biological Diversity was proclaimed by the United Nations as a day to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues.  There is an international treaty to sustain the rich diversity of life. Is this too little, too late? What is your viewpoint?  

"Agriculture can promote biological diversity if it shows due respect for nature. But agriculture can also become a danger for biological diversity, e.g. through the excessive use of pesticides or by creating monocultures. However, one thing is beyond doubt: agricultural production is directly dependent on the resources and services provided by the diversity of nature", said German Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel, President of the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity" United Nations Environment Programme Press release
